The Creator wants us to Drum. (God) wants us to corrupt the world with drums, dance, and chants. We've already corrupted the world with power and greed, which has gotten us nowhere. Now's the time to corrupt the world with drum, dance, and chants.----Babatunde Olatungi, Nigerian master drummer

A Rumi-nation by Leo Hartshorn

Any movement or sound is a profession of faith, as the millstone grinding is explaining how it believes in the river!---Sufi mystic Jalaluddin Rumi

if Rumi is right
then what is my drumming?
is it a belief in rhythm
or the hands of joy
that play through my body?
is it faith in music of the ear
or music of the body in motion?

should I then write a creed
of the drum?
or a catechism of rhythm?
should I pray with tombak
and meditate with daf?
are the sounds of the drum
belief in the eternal rhythm
unseen, without sound
beating through the universe
and my singular heart
thump-thump
thump-thump
Amen.
